Standing Goose (企鵝)

The literal translation of the Chinese word for a penguin.

Also: the opposite of a sitting duck.

Kia ora! My name is Lisa. Standing Goose is the result of my journey to make sense of my place in the world.

Ever since I was at school, I have felt constantly torn between two worlds: Science and Art. Logic and feelings. Pakeha culture and my Chinese heritage. Capitalism around me and my overt idealistic outlook on life.

“Standing Goose” is the literal translation of the word for penguin in Chinese. It’s a bird that swims. It’s an awkward-looking bird until it’s in its element.

I have always felt this strange affinity with penguins. And when I was trying to come up with a name for my pottery business, I knew I wanted to incorporate penguins into it.

I like experimenting with my art, and I love both sculpting and throwing. I like to fuse different ideas and concepts and see what comes out of it.

Welcome to my little world of playfulness and whimsy.
